Bukola Ogunsola’s journey from script to screen is one of passion, purpose, and perseverance.

BIOGRAPHY

Bukola Ogunsola, a Nigerian Filmmaker born on May 28th 1979. Her father, Emeritus Professor Matthew Akinyemi ARAOYE 1940-2008) was a renowned Cardiologist and Professor of Medicine and her Mother (Mrs Abigail ARAOYE 1950- present) is a Retired Nurse. Bukola is the 3rd born and has 4 other siblings, (Two Sisters and Two Brothers)

Bukola spent her early years in Ilorin, Kwara State where she attended University Primary School and Unilorin Secondary School.  In 1997, she gained admission into Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife to study LAW and was called to the Nigerian Bar Association in 2004 upon successful completion of her Bar Exams.

In 2006, after completing her one year National Youth Service Corps, serving as a Graduate Assistant at the Law Faculty of the University of Ilorin, Bukola worked as a Legal Counsel in Infinite Associates, Ilorin for six months but later went back to earn a Masters Degree in Law at the University of Ibadan in 2007.

Bukola continued in the Legal Profession for a few more years, working as a Legal Assistant at the Arbitration and ADR in Africa, Abuja from 2009 until she took a career break in 2012. In 2015, she came back on the scene, but this time to pursue her lifelong passion- FILMMAKING.

FILMMAKING

From a young age, Bukola had always been fascinated with the world of story-telling. She starred in countless stage plays both in school and church. The older she grew, the more she developed a passion for telling stories. In 2015, Bukola enrolled at the London Film Academy, where she learnt SCREENWRITING. That same year, she attended the Met Film School, London where she took a short course on FILM MAKING. On her return, she wrote her first screenplay for Africa Magic titled ‘’THE PERFECT PLAN’’.

Bukola went ahead to write, direct and produce her first feature film titled ‘’HAPPY FATHER’S DAY’’ which she licensed to Africa Magic

Burning with a desire to learn more about filmmaking and improve her craft, in 2018 Bukola enrolled at the Prestigious New York Film Academy, New York where she studied FILM MAKING. On her return she wrote, directed and produced her second feature film ANOTHER FATHER’S DAY which had a nationwide cinema release in 2019 and currently streams on Amazon Prime.

In 2019, she attended the London Film School to take a course in DIRECTING ACTORS. During the COVID lockdown, Bukola worked on several drafts of her screenplay SOMETHING ABOUT THE BRIGGS ( She had written the first draft in 2014) In 2023, her passion to become more acquainted with the camera propelled her to enrol for a two months CINEMATOGRAPHY course  at the Prague Film Institute.

In 2024, Bukola went ahead to direct and produce her screenplay SOMETHING ABOUT THE BRIGGS which Is scheduled for release later in the year.

Fun facts

Personal life

Bukola met Folarin Ogunsola in 2004 while serving as a Youth Corper in Ilorin. They met at the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) where he works as an Executive Pastor. On Oct 20th 2007, they got married and their union is blessed with three children.

BUKOLA OGUNSOLA FOUNDATION

In 2023, Bukola established the Bukola Ogunsola Foundation, an NGO which aims at providing sponsorship for Media Programs, activities, shows and outreaches targetted at spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Spiritual life

In 1998, Bukola while studying at OAU Ile-Ife, attended a Christian Drama Night Program where she gave her life to Jesus Christ. Since then, she has remained a committed Christian. She is passionate about producing results that make Jesus popular as she believes she has been called to shine God’s Light to the world.

In 2004, Her path was directed by God to the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), where she gained more spiritual clarity as regards her Purpose. She learnt the value of excellence and spirituality as two core values needed to thrive and these values have shaped her through the years. Bukola currently serves in the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Lagos as an Operation Officer. She oversees Heads of Department and also teaches the Premarital Counselling Class. She also assists her husband who is the Executive Pastor of the Lagos church in other administrative roles.
